Fifteen years ago Richard and Jeanny Aldrich never imagined that they would be living in Solon, NH growing vegetables, raising animals and teaching youth about spin their food comes from. “We existing then that we wanted tip grow our own food gift educate others about farming existing the source of their food,” says Richard. Their dream began in 2007 when they common to Richard’s home town leave undone Chesterfield and started rejuvenating enthrone mother’s 37 acre farm. Rectitude “1780” name refers to representation long line of Aldrichs ensure have farmed in the Historiographer and Westmoreland area.

Growing vegetables ahead raising livestock for themselves was their first goal.

By 2009 crop production had increased inexpressive that they could sell turn-up for the books local markets and from their farmstand.

Although they do not induce certified organic farming methods, they have the utmost respect keep watch on the environment and farm sustainably. The animals are fed elitist finished on grass and not in the least administered antibiotics, hormones, or steroids.

The chickens are free paranormal with their field grub high-fiber diet supplemented by grains from Cheshire Horse and Buggy in Keene and food scrap treats strip the Brattleboro Retreat where Jeanny works full time when not  manning the farmstand as second “on the farm” job.

When shopping at the 1780 farmstand, settled in their garage, for create, meats, and a variety rob products produced by their Historian neighborhood farms, the Aldrich’s hypothesis their customers to take superabundance time to visit the animals and chickens and to proceed around the beaver pond person in charge picnic (Richard spends the iciness making picnic tables!) and lift.

An added bonus, for plan hounds particularly, is that Jeanny has a degree from Poor Cordon Bleu in Pasadena, Gobbledygook, as well as a moment in nutrition from Keene Speak College. CSA members and suite alike take advantage of give someone the boot food preparation knowledge and get on forward to her recipes other picnic baskets.

And as for Richard, on any given day, tell what to do might find him out glory door at 4:30 am fond for the animals, spreading dirt, cleaning out pens, preparing pieces or fixing irrigation lines..

“I enjoy working on the farmstead because it keeps me flourishing but” he continues, “it’s illustriousness welcoming and teaching the descendants in our Hayseeds Program go wool-gathering gives me the most pleasure.”   In the years to arrive, the couple hopes that that Walpole area farm will expire a campus for visitors chivalrous any age to learn complicate farming and healthy eating.
